I’ve reported in the past about Chicken Jerky treats made in China making dogs sick and killing many of them, urging you to toss out any treats made in China and refusing to offer them to your pets while they are in our care.  The FDA never required these companies, that outsource their production to China, to recall their products.  The FDA STILL hasn’t required them to do so, BUT, there are a couple companies that are voluntarily recalling their Chicken Jerky treats made in China and here’s why:

Chinese chicken farmers have been pumping many different types of antibiotics and other drugs into their chickens to fatten them up within 40 days.  Although the farmers are supposed to stop injecting these drugs into the chickens a week prior to slaughter, many farmers continue to inject these drugs to increase the size of their chickens so they can get more money for them.  See, these chickens are kept in such small, crowded coups that they can’t get large unless they are given supplements.  If they were in larger coups, with more room to grow, the farmers wouldn’t need to use artificial means to get them to plump up.  It costs money to keep larger coups and to keep them clean.  That should NOT affect the chicken that is being processed and shipped to the United States, but it is.

The companies that have voluntarily recalled their products are saying that during recent testing, their products have been found to have trace amounts of antibiotics in them.  The companies keep saying that the amount of antibiotics that were found in their products is not harmful to pets if given in the recommended doses.  So why then, are they recalling their treats?  Is there something more going on that they aren’t telling us?  Are they trying to cover their butts because of all the complaints and reports of sick and dying dogs?

Milo’s Kitchen Jerky Treat and Chicken Grillers

I predict that there will be many more recalls from companies that have their chicken products produced in China.  Take a look at your pet’s treats…check the label…if they were made in China…GET RID OF THEM!
